Nairobians
were treated to six days (August 27 to September 1st) of powerful teachings by
anointed men of God from various countries.
The conference, which
was organised by the Deliverance Church Umoja, situated in the populous
Eastlands part of Nairobi, drew thousands of Christians from all walks of
live.
Apart from the host
speakers, Revs. John Brown Masinde (pictured) and Joseph Mutua, other invited
speakers included; pastors Stanley Mehta (India), Rampa (Botswana), Richard
Epiu (Uganda), Naill Barry (Ireland), Hanken Giniste (Sweden), and B. Sonette
(USA).
Preaching on the
conference theme, 'God has Exalted Jesus and Given Him the Name', all the
speakers emphasised the importance of worship as the main mark of a true
believer.
Pastor Stanley said
that worship should not only be an occasional episode in a Christians life but
should be, rather, a lifestyle. He said that worship should emanate from a
place of love. God is love and those who go to Him must do so in love. A
worthy God, he said, deserves worthy praise and worship. This means that
worship is costly as evidenced by Mary who anointed Jesus feet with an
expensive ointment. She came prepared with a costly ointment. Her sole focus
as she knelt at the feet of Jesus was to worship Him. Not even the host, Simon
Peter, could derail her one goal - to worship Jesus. When we come to worship
the Lord, we should be willing to give up whatever it is we prize for the
purpose of worshipping Him.
Another speaker,
Hanken Giniste, said that when the Holy Spirit moves among worshippers
gathered in a building, even the people outside feel His presence.
Reverend Joseph Mutua
dwelt on worship through giving. We worship God by giving ourselves fully to
Him and spending time with Him. The time we spend with God reflects how much
we love Him. He said that the Word of God becomes effective in our lives only
when we obey it. It is only when we respond to the Word of God about giving
that we can confidently say: 'God will supply all my needs according to His
riches in glory'.
Other topics included
responding to God's call without giving excuses (Lk 14:15-24). Evangelist Mama
Mwai of Charisma Ministries exhorted believers to simply adore Jesus. Just
walk into His presence, just as you are, and simply adore him.
The conference ended
on a very refreshing note. Those who attended confessed of being spiritually
uplifted.
