Pulsating! Inspirational! Uplifting! Unique! Perhaps there’s no adjective that can fully describe East African Gospel music. Despite the heavy influence of Western Gospel music into African music, the afro beat has resisted complete annihilation by the Western beat.
From Esther Wahome’s Kuna Dawa, to Baraza’s soulful Baba Pokea Sifa, the distinct East African beat stands out strong.
What makes East African Gospel music unique? Is it the numerous dialects spoken all over the region? Or is it the drumbeats; the passion of the artists; the spirituality of Christians in the region?
Whereas I may not have quick answers to these questions, the songs listed on this website offer a diverse genre of Gospel Music from East Africa – with an unintended bias towards Kenya.
The aim of this collection is to make available Gospel music from Kenya (and East Africa in general) to the widest possible audience. Most of the titles on this website are in different formats – the predominant one being audio cassettes. CDs and VCDs are available in most cases, since more and more musicians are adopting technology-friendly formats. In a number of cases, videotapes exist – but I guess this technology is going the dinosaurs’ way!
All the titles listed here are in stock at leading Nairobi music stores. Our aim is to create a database of Gospel music from East Africa (and ultimately Africa) and find ways of making this music available to anyone wherever they are in the world. With technology evolving with speed, this objective will be speedwise realised.
If you are an East African living abroad and you occasionally feel homesick, these songs will bring the unique African worship experience into your living room. Our charges cover the cost of the music, postage and handling (and of course something little to keep us online).
Place Your Order If there is a particular song you are looking for and you cannot find it here, email us at sales@swordofthespiritministries.net and we will get back to you in a flash. We really do appreciate your patronage. If we can help you get you to know God better through these songs, we will consider ourselves fully recompensed. |
