Exultation

In this final installment on character, I just want to stress further the importance of forging for yourself a good character. Like cast iron which is heated and then molded to fit a desired shape or design, for a good character to develop in us, we must be willing to be cast into the fiery furnace of life's sufferings and trials. As you drive in the traffic and a crazy driver cuts dangerously ahead of you, before you curse and call him 'stupid', pause for a moment and think of the damage this may cause your character. Don't be afraid to eat humble pie now and then if this is what it takes to develop or safeguard a good character. When someone has to take responsibility over something that did not go according to plan, let that person be you. Don't pass the buck - it might be the one thing your character needs to be as pure as gold. Don't be afraid to look bad. Sometimes it is therapeutic to let down your guard and sock in other people's blame - Jesus did it and yet He now sits at the right-hand side of God. For character traits such as perseverance, humility, obedience, trust, love, compassion, etc, to develop in you, be prepared to absorb the shocks and bumps that will so frequently come your way.
