And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. - 1 Chronicles 4:10.

Exultation

The extent of our blessings or lack of it is limited by our own lips. Jabez prayed a very simple prayer. He did not mince words as to what he wanted God to do for him. So many times we live a life of lack and insufficiency just because we do not open our mouths and ask God to bless us. Jabez asked God to bless him, to expand his sphere of influence, to support and protect him from evil. This simple prayer of Jabez was simple, yet very complete. He was very specific to God on what he wanted Him to do for him. We need to be specific when we present our requests to God in prayer. Sometimes the answer to our prayers is delayed just because we are not clear on what we want God to do for us. There is nothing wrong in telling God you want more money, a new car, a husband, a wife, etc. Sometimes we feel like we are bothering God by asking him to bless us. This should not be the case. Today, take a minute and say this prayer for yourself: 'Dear Lord, bless me indeed, enlarge my sphere of influence, support and protect me from all manner of evil. Grant me happiness and contentment and enable me to enjoy the fruit of my labour. Amen.' Have a blessed day! - By Innocent Mwangi
